every summer my stepmother, terri makes the most delicious ice creams + sorbets. one that i love + crave in particular is her lemon buttermilk sorbet. creamy, sweet + tangy i think it is the best compliment to any summer meal.
my roommate + i love this sorbet so much we make it every week! i even have to fight her from sipping the mix from the bowl before it is done!!
lemon buttermilk sorbet*
ingredients:
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons grated lemon peel
4 cups buttermilk
preparation:
stir sugar, lemon juice + peel in medium bowl. add buttermilk; stir until sugar dissolves. chill until cold, about 4 hours. process mixture in ice cream maker according to manufacturer's instructions. transfer to container with lid; freeze. {can be made 3 days ahead - keep frozen}
servings: makes about 7 cups
*this recipe is from the epicurious website - i use + strongly recommend only a cup + a half of fine sugar.
i also love to throw in a handful of fresh raspberries, blueberries or strawberries towards the end of the mixing cycle :)
enjoy!
